The new JC Penney ad for Back To School is a great callback to "The Breakfast Club." It features teenage boys and girls dancing and acting like in the movie, and even features the hit song from the movie, though re-made:
Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me
The JCP commercials feature several different versions of the song. One is "Don't You Forget About Me" by New Found Glory
from their CD "From the Screen to Your Stereo, Pt. II."
... I think.
But are at least 5 verions by other bands (such as Hawk Nelson, Sun Lux and more). Your best bet is the iTunes-only JCPenney offering called "JCPenney Presents: Don't You Forget About Me (The Covers) - EP."
It is - a collection of remakes of DYFAM - six different versions, a great idea!
But I'd be slammed if I didn't mention that the song was originally recorded by Simple Minds
, and is available on the Breakfast Club soundtrack (Amazon) and on iTunes in "Now That's What I Call The 80's" ![]()
And if you have not seen "The Breakfast Club" pick up the DVD, you'll appreciate the J.C. Penney commercial even more.
