Parotid Cancer Update: Six Months of Freedom

We had some great news yesterday.

M'Lady will not need to return to her Radiation Oncologist for six months! Her Radiation Therapy ended in August, and we've had 2 follow-ups since then. But now the Doc said that December's CT scan looked great, with no signs of the tumor returning. And that she didn't need to see m'Lady again for six months!

(You may recall that she had acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland, had the tumor removed and underwent 6 weeks of RT)

I don't know what is typical, but I've heard you are usually on 3-month follow-ups for about a year before being relaxed to six-month (then a year, then being released). So for us, for her, this is encouraging, wonderful new. Not only is it a sign of her improvement, but it also takes a HUGE load of worry and fear away.

I know it isn't earth-shattering news, but since I've talked about her journey so much here (and you've given so much support) I just HAD to update you with the good news.

Wish you could see my smile right now!

I'm very happy for you both. That's great news.

That's fantastic news! I'm very happy for both of you.

That's so awesome! I'm glad to hear it!

I had surgery on 11-29-05 for Acinic Cell Carcinoma. My tumor was not inside the superficial parotid gland, but rather behind the gland and against the facial muscle. I am recovering nicely and am in the process of getting ready for radiation. My tumor was 8mm. and I discovered it early. I'm a Registered Nurse, so I was very persistant about getting as much info as possible before the surgery. Now, I continue to research the radiation treatment and prognosis very vigorously. I'm talking to friends who are surgeons, pathologist and the like. It's like I can't get enough information to ease my mind. But I'm optomistist that my outcome will be good. Glad your's is and hope you continue to do well.
