Weight for Me, Pt. 2

Another interesting product out is the "One A Day Weight Smart Vitamins."

(or WeightSmart, hard to tell these days - everyone loves to use FancyCaps)

Heard about these things? They are multivitamins that are supposed to boost your metabolisim if you are on a weight loss program.

In addition to loads and loads of vitamins, their secret ingredient is 27 mg. of EGCG (Green Tea Extract), also known as Epigallocatechin Gallate. It comes from the same plant as regular black tea (Camellia Sinensishas), but is less processed, so the leaves retain their natural goodness. Now, I'd heard about how good Green Tea is for your teeth, your heart, cancer prevention and such, but I'd never heard that it helps with weight loss.

I'd wager you could skip the WeightSmart vitamins and just locate some EGCG pills. Word is, this all-natural extract can lower cholesterol and increase calorie burning.

So just how much should you take? WeightSmart suggests 2 pills per day, so thats roughly 55 mg. A quick scan of Drugstore.com reveals that the "Green Tea Diet" contains 100 mg and suggests up to two (2) caplets a day. The "Nature's Bounty Super Green Tea Diet" contains 500 mg. per pill and suggests no more than 2 per day. That's 1,000 mg. folks! "Natrol Green Tea" capsules also come in 500 mg. and recommends two.

So I guess what I am wondering here, if this stuff really works, how much is too much? With all these different manufacturers selling different dosages and recommending different servings, how do you know what's best?

Anyway, this is just a trend I noticed, and wanted to put it down for anyone else interested. Let me know if you have any experiences to share and leave a comment.

As for me, I'm off to make some Green Tea...

I've been taking the one a day weight smart pills for just over 20 days and I have spent the last week with diarrhea. I noticed that several people have said that they have gotten this from taking these pills. Any idea how long it lasts?
