I just listened to an 80's megamix that reminded me of a really bad trend that I am glad went away - rap versions of pop songs.
There were others, but probably the worst offenders were "MC Miker G and Deejay Sven."
I can't find much on these two, but I am pretty sure they hailed from the Netherlands and never had a hit that wasn't first a hit by someone else.
The two I remember them for are:
I wish I had cuts of these songs for you so you could appreciate how bad these tunes really are.
Sample lyrics:
We gonna ring-rang-a-dong for a holiday!
Put your arms in the air and let me hear you say.
We gonna ring-rang-a-dong for a holiday!
Bad. Bad meaning bad, not bad meaning good. Well, not that bad. When it is on, you can't help but laugh at how silly it sounds to hear two guys from Amsterdam rapping taking turns with Madonna singing Holiday. (Madonna or a good sound-alike)
I am not even sure if these guys even had an album. Back in the 80's all you needed was a 12" single with a radio mix, an extended mix and a dub (instrumental). 12" singles were the grandpa of today's CD singles, except they were vinyl, took up much more space and could break, warp or get scratched. I probably have about 300 12" singles in my closet that I just can't get rid of, meanwhile my record player gathers much dust.
But I digress...if you would like to know more about the duo of MC Miker G and Deejay Sven, be sure to read their page at the Dutch Rock & Pop Institute at HollandRocks.com! And if you want the song, you can always order the import from Amazon.com.

On a random side note, the Monday Mission is TWO YEARS OLD today! Yes, I posted about it 1 year ago today - so that means that it is TWO! Whoo hoooo! :) Just had to share.
