Just throw your Hook in the Air

I was a marginal particiapant in "Talk Like A Pirate Day," mostly among office mates.

You know, trying to explain something like "TLAPD" to anyone who doesn't use the Internet is a lost cause. Not because you have to have the Internet to read the web page, it is just that folks like "us" get it. Does that make sense?

There is a certain appreciation for all things oddball that we folks have that non-geeky, non-techie folks just don't. Of course, I am generalizing, so realize it may not apply to someone out there you know, but it applies to most folks I know.

I mentioned on Friday that it was"TLAPD" to m'Lady and she just looked at me and asked simply "Why would you want to do that?" And I was stumped. I mean really, how can you explain the inherent weirdness of something like that to someone? It either "clicks" with you in your mind, or it doesn't, you know?

Either you can appreciate things like "Snap Your Desk" "The Coffee Cup Project" and "Parking Spots" or you just don't and probably won't ... ever.

Makes it kinda hard to share the silliness of some things now and then.

Boy, did I ever digress!

My original point was, that on Friday, NPR aired a hilarious tune called "Straight Outta Portsmouth" after a "TLAPD" segment with Dave Barry. Maybe it was just because I never expected to hear a "Pirate Rap" song, but this thing cracked me up on the drive home. Apparently it was produced just for "All Things Considered" by Spin magazine writer Chris Norris. Great stuff, easily the best thing about "TLAPD!"

That "Pirate Rap" song is great!!! Funniest thing I've heard in a while.

You are so right about non-internet-techie people not getting things like that ... but I find it interesting that your "m'lady" doesn't seem to be in to the net and all that that entails! I guess in some cases -- opposites attract? My husband and I are both major computer and internet geeks ... but I guess we have differing tastes in other areas -- so you and I probably both have fairly normal relationships. Oh well. Not sure why I commented this -- other than to just agree.

Oh and .... Add your categories to the side! (Maybe as dropdown box archives!)

OK! I checked out the "Coffee Cup Project" (Is that you in the pic? It says "promoguy" above the pic) I can't make out the last word on the cup. I also checked out "Snap Your Desk" but the one I LOVED was "Parking Spots"!! I just cracked up at the shots. People walked by my office today just staring at me. When I tried to show them the pics and how the little cars looked so real except that you could see the fingers holding them, they just looked at me like I was some weirdo. I just said, "Nevermind, you just don't get it." and continued on in my own world. Like that saying goes, "I'm in my own world but it's OK, they know me here."
As for your lady not understanding, I don't even think it has anything to do with being an "internet junkie". One should participate in TLAPD just for the fun and adventure of it. Work gets to be so monotonous that you have to liven up the place every so often or go crazy.

Quiznos just got me into going to "TOGOS", thank you!!! They have awsome sandwiches.
