June 16, 2005When Digtal Photos Look "Too Good"With the advent of affordable, megapixel cameras, photo print joints are having a hard time figuring out which photographs are professional and which are by ordinary Joes. Why would they care? Copyright infringements. Professional photographs (such as Sears, JC Penny and such) can not be reprinted without permission. If you show up at the Wal-Marts to print a photo that looks "professional" in most cases, they will refuse to print it. Yep, even if you took it. When Morgan's mother and a client recently took CDs with some of his shots to a printing lab, the photo technicians spurned them. They said that since the shots seemed to have been taken by a professional, printing the pictures might be a copyright violation. It has always been a weird concept - you pay a photographer to take your photo and you buy prints, but they still "own" the image of you. Not arguing with it, it is just a weird concept. So be warned, don't be taking photos that are "too good" you might find yourself out of luck! Posted by on June 16, 2005 @ June 16, 2005 01:55 PM 0 folks had something to say |
