Remember when I mentioned the cool SNES controller that was filled to the brim with NES games?

Well, I did the deed. I went and picked one up! I now own a very cheaply made, bootleg ridden handheld NES TV game.

OK first things first: I don't know what to call this thing!

The box calls it simply "Power Player." But the instructions call it "Super Joy III TV Game." One controller is labeled "Power Player" and the other says both "Super Joy III" and "Super Joystick TV Game." So who knows what it is???

Let's just call it: Power Player.

Sheesh.

My Mini-Review:

The Concept:
A handheld controller with built-in games. No game carts needed. Great idea! Just how many 8-an-16-bit games can you cram into a single chip anyway?

The makers of the "Power Player" seems to think 76,000 is a good amount. This whole "TV Games" concept of a controller with built in games isn't that new. Devices such as the "Power Player" have been spotted at Flea Markets years before the "TV Games Atari" appeared. However, the TV Games device is legit - this thing is so totally bootleg it isn't even funny.

What You Get:
1 Super Joy pad, 1 Power Player pad with joystick, 1 light gun, 1 AC wall adaptor, 1 set of A/V plugs.

Setup:
The Power Player can run off of a wall adapter or batteries! To play, just plug in the RCA plugs into the right jacks on your TV. Could it be any easier? Hot Tip: If you have a TV in your car, then this would be great for the kids to pass the time in the backseat.

Controllers:
The meat of the "Power Player Super Joystick" is the Super Joy pad III. It is very lightweight and doesn't feel very sturdy at all. But it fits into the hands well, and comes with a long A/V cable so you can sit back a ways from the TV. One note: the blue joystick in the middle of the pad does nothing. It is decoration only, and doesn't work worth a flip. It won't even move.

In addition to the main N64-esque Super Joy pad, you get 2 additional controllers. One looks like a Sega Genesis controller, but with a screw-in joystick. Um, ok. Whatever. If they are going to include that, why not do the same for the Super Joy pad? Weird. Anyways, the other controller is the light gun. And I do mean GUN. Look at this thing!

I wonder if you drove by someone who's kid was pointing this at the back of the driver's seat - what would you think was happening? I think the gun looks too real, and should have been colored like the one on the box. Regardless, it is included for games like Duck Hunt. Both of these plug into the front of the main Super Joy pad. I don't know if you can use NES controllers, since I don't have one to test with.

I put up a gallery of photos I took of the one I bought. I will remove the pages a week or so. Go have a look.

Play:
When you fire it up, guess what? It's FUN TIME.

No really, it says so right there, so it must be true!

There isn't much to say about the game play. All the games are mostly as you remember them, except that several don't have startup screens. Kinda nice actually, it lets you get right into the game. Otherwise, if you played the NES, then this is pretty much like that - but with a better controller.

The Games:
Apparently this little doo-hickey has something like 76 games inside on a little chip.

No, wait. Make that 100 games. No, how about 76,000!

OK, it has 76,000 options on at least 76-100 games. Some games start on different levels (like Super Mario, world 3-1 and so on) So when you hear 76,000 games, just realize those are only variations of a small set of titles.

[Actual image from Power Player via my TV card]

The games have unusual names, but most of them you can figure out. Some are not what you'd expect: the one called "Pac-Man" is not the arcade game, not even Pac-Man at all so don't get your hopes up - totally false; "Toy Story" isn't based on the Disney movie; and so on. The names are made-up, probably "Engrish" so, keep it in mind. With 76,000 titles to come up with, I imagine they weren't too creative!

I found this on the web, so I can't be sure it is complete:
1942, Clay Shooting, Formation Z, Mario Bros, Speed Tank, Aladdin III, Clu Clu Land, Front Line, Milk & Nuts, Spoon, Antarctic, Combat, Galaga, Millipede, Star Forcee, Arabian, Contra, Golf, Monkey, Star Gate, Arkonoid, Desert Tank, Gyrodine, Ninja I, Super Dynamix, Balloon Fight, Devil World, Helicopter, Super Mario, Baseball, Dig Dug, Hogan's Alley, Painte, Tekken, Binary & Land, Donkey Kong 2, Ice Climber, Pin Ball,Tennis, Bird Week, Door Door, Joust ,Podyan, Tetris II, Bomb Jack, Duck Hunt, King of Fighter, Popeye, Toy Story, Bomber Man, Elevator, Lode Runner 2, Road Fighter, Twin Bee, Brush Roll, Excite Bike, Lunar Ball, Sky Destroyer, Urban Champion, Burger Time, Exerion, Magic Jewelry, Slalom, Wild Gunman, Calculator, F1 Race, Mappy, Space, world Soccer, Circus Chablie, Five Chess, Marcross, Spartanx, WWF & Zippy Race.

Expandability:
Under the Super Joy pad there is a slot where it would seem that you could insert your NES carts.

I've read though, that this slot only works for Famicon carts (used in the Japanese version of the NES), and not with our US NES carts. Something about a region lockout and different number of pins in the slot. I don't have any NES games, so I can't test this. But, it is a neat idea.

Versions:
This is where it gets tricky!

The one I have is the "Power Player 3" but I see that there is already a "Power Player 3.5" out (including all the above plus Pacman - Real Arcade, Donkey 3, Original Tetris, Paper Boy, Defender II, Space Invaders, Gradius, Super Conta, Track & Field, Warpman, "plus many more games and great arcade sounds").

But, the one you see here is not that one. The one I have has a gold foil sticker that reads 76000 and the box, in theupper corner has a model # of "XA-76-1E."

Annnnd....I saw another one, SAME model #, same box, but it had 120,000 games!!!

But the box had NO gold foil sticker, and the gun was a bright color (green, red, etc.). Otherwise you'd never know it wasn't a 76,000 in 1. It DID have the arcade Pac-Man, but didn't have Donky Kong, Jr., and Super Mario Brothers had the music playing too fast. I felt the benefit of Pac-Man (which I don't care for, I dig Ms. Pac-Man) wasn't enough to justify the loss of other games, so I passed.

BUT to make it even more confusing...there IS a 76,000 in 1 with the REAL Pac-Man. The Model # is something like NA-76 (no sure of the first 2 digits, sorry). Keep your eye open, and PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY!

There is also "Power Player Y2K" which is an older model, but still being sold. There may be others. How can you tell the apart? Check the label in the upper right corner. The 3.5 version has a sticker over that which reads "PP-1." The Y2K version has "Y2K" on the box artwork. Either is probably fine, but newer is better. Just be sure you get one of the most current "III" models. If the mall kiosk has the 3.5 mixed in with the others, I may just go exchange it.

How To Get One:
I first saw these being sold at a Kiosk in the mall three years ago (different model then). I passed on it, because I knew I could emulate any NES game on the PC or Dreamcast. But then I had non-buyers remorse. I realized the "Coolness Factor" of this was too high, and from then on, really wanted to get one. I never saw them again, until last Christmas. There was another Kiosk with stacks of these Power Player pads, but they wanted $75 for them. Too high for me, but they were selling some. Again, I really wanted to get one, but my common sense wouldn't let me. Then last week, I was walking through the same mall and heard the familiar Super Mario Brothers "doo doo doot do do dooo" and turned around right quick! They they were again. The same shady Kiosk, rented by some unknown person, manned by college kids trying to make ends meet. "How Much?" I asked, and he told me $55, no tax. Hm, this gets shadier and shadier. Still too high. But I began to obsess about it.

I went back, and of course, some other kid was running the booth. I can't disclose what happened next, 'cause I was asked to keep it on the downlow, but short time later I walked out with my owm "Power Player" box, humming a happy tune.

Email me if you want one, maybe I can help you out.

So how can you get one otherwise? You can order them online from the manufacturer, or scan through Google or Froogle.

Conclusion:
What a great way to re-live your youth! Many of your favorite games in a controller you can take nearly anywhere (as long as there is a TV to conncect to). Great for the kids, or just testing to see if you remember where the Warp Zones are in Super Mario!

Depending on who you buy it from (and where, and when), you could pay anywhere from $20 - $55 for one. If you get a lower price, then, this is a great deal. It really isn't worth more than $30, but if you are a serious/obsessive collector, and have the money, then you probably won't mind. The way Nintendo is cracking down on emulators via their new emulation Patent, I am wondering how long these will be around. Bottom line: Lots of fun, get one while you can!

Now, if they'd just make one of these with Super Nintendo games!

BONUS:
Did you find yourself thinking "Hmm, wonder if I could hack into this thing and make a portable NES player?" No? Well, Ben Heckendorn of the Atari 2600 Portables Site (http://www.classicgaming.com) did, and actually made one! Go forth and see what can be done!

Of course these are bootleg NES/Famicom systems from China and they are illegal to sell in the US under the DMCA. Nintendo does not get a dime off these things. Bootleg NES systems is a industy in china because of the technical simplicity and lack of copy protection on the hardware.

I purchased one at a mall. At what I thought was a discounted price. It had 64.95 down to 54.95. I thought okay $10 bucks off. When we brought it home it had a dulling noise in background whenever you played. Is that normal? To top it off I am now seeing this item for much much less even with shipping. I am going to try to take it back and get my money back or a big discount with an exchange. I will keep you posted.

Posted by: 2Thoughts at April 7, 2004 11:14 AM

Well this is the update. I took it back to the mall. All of a sudden no one could understand basic English. They kept asking me what did I want to do, after I told them I wanted a refund. They didn't believe that it made a static noise in the background during play. They took it out of the box and plugged it in at their stand, where it made the same noise. Again they asked me what I wanted to do. I said I would be open to an exchange and a partial refund. They said they would call the boss. I stood there for about 10 mins. After that I was promptly given a full refund. I liked this model because it was all colored and it did not have the gun colors like the ones like I have seen online. This is the first time I have seen it, so I don't know if it is the updated SuperJoy Model. It didn't seem like they wanted to budge on the price. Based on the pricing I have seen online, I thought they would more reasonable.

I have been selling these for about a year. They are wonderful. My little boy thinks its the best thing since television. I sell them for $30.00 plus $8.00 shipping (thats fedex insured shipping with a tracking number I email you). If you need more than one, I can give unbelievable deals on combined shipping. My system is the super joy 3. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at cookiecoleman2@Msn.com

Question RE: Joy III; does it come in 4 different colors or do you just have the black and grey. I wanted the model that did not come with the gunlike colors. The arcade gun was light green in the new models.

Posted by: 2Thoughts at April 11, 2004 03:01 AM

the joy pad is to small to fit american nes games(I already tried to put the games in) and the nintendo controllers don't fit, I already tried to use it.

Posted by: brad at April 18, 2004 04:59 PM

It's a 9-pin serial connector, so you could likely use any Genesis controller (like one of those cool fighting rings or maybe a steering wheel). Thanks for writing this review, this just makes me want one even more now ^^. I'm gonna get the 3.5 they have on the official site for just under $40, it's totally worth it! If anyone knows for sure if Japanese Famicom carts would work, please comment. I've seen some fantastic collections on eBay and wanna know if they'd be worth buying (some of the collections I've seen would be great just for the collection value, but I'd like to be able to play them if I could.

Posted by: Gnafu at April 21, 2004 05:43 PM

Turns out Lik-Sang has a 72-60 pin converter that allows the play of US NES carts on a Japanese Famicom, so now all I need is a confirmation that Famicom carts would in fact work. If they work, then so would this adapter. I don't have the link handy, just search Lik-Sang for "NES to Famicom converter" or something to that effect; they're about $10.

What is up with the power player pika boy 2 thing it isn`t
mainly pokemon games yet they call it pika boy it could have been good if it wasn`t designed around the pikacho

Posted by: Bob Mcgreger at April 25, 2004 02:44 PM

411 Toys sells the III for $20 and the new 3.5 for $40. And as for the Pika Boy 2, it's just one of many Famiclones. Check out http://famiclone.emucamp.com/ for pics and info on TONS of Famiclones from all around the world, is a really fun history lesson.

Posted by: Gnafu at April 25, 2004 04:05 PM

I got one of these under the impression, from using the display model, it was a decent product.

1. There is a hum in the sound at all times.
2. The music is so quiet you can barely hear it.
3. The sound effects are full of static.
4. 10% of games can't run and crash if they do.
5. The tinest bump to the cart will crash the machine and lose your progress.
6. The B button, down and left on mine ALL stopped working within 15 mins of first opening the box.
7. The power adapter was 500 MaH. MINIMUM REQUIRED for the Famicom is 800! Cheap substitute!
8. Built in control cannot be overridden with an external controller.
9. External controller had mushy buttons and half of them didn't work, like it was used and thrown at the wall.
10. Battery does no damn good since you need to be tethered to a TV anyway.
11. 76 'built in' games on the cart are mostly horrible, glitchy hacks of the originals.
12. Retailers are scam artists ..
13. Poor internal design, glued in wires, shoddy layout.
14. Primitive 'Famicom on a Chip', not a real set of ICs, produces low quality sound and inaccurate performance.

AVOID THESE THINGS. They are BAD news..

Posted by: Epicenter at April 29, 2004 02:40 AM

Epicenter, it cost's like $30-$50. That means it costs like $10 to make, if that. You can't expect it to be made of top bin quality components for $10 total cost. If they made a controller like the one you wanted, it would cost 10 times the amount. They don't do that cause it is supposed to be a cheap hack novelty device, not a masterpiece. You want the original? Then buy the original and see how much it costs you...

I recently went to the mall and picked up my own. It promised me 76(or so) NES and bootleg titles in one package, and being the Old-school NES player that I am, I was thrilled.
So I took it home. Plugged it up. Oh wow!!!! IT DOESNT WORK!!
I tried many ways to get it to work:
-different TV
-different channels
-different cables
(all while running around the house, moving things around like some god-damned zelda game)
Nothing would work.
I try to hook up the Power Player again. Still doesn't work. My brother comes in, so he decided to get another AV jack. We plug it in. Turn it on. IT BLOWS UP!! THE POWER PLAYER BLOWS UP IN OUR FACES!! It also left some delicious fumes that have me feeling sickly right now.
We just stared the smoking controller for a minute until the heat began to burn my hand. My brother had the nerve to break the silence by saying "Guess it just wasn't meant to be"

So we go to the mall, where they gladly replace it for us, and apologize for the inconvenience, and I try it again. Okay, it works now. And may I add, it's great! This is a short-attention span's person's dream come true! I just wish they had more games, and that the box art had ACTUAL game pictures, instead of some helicopter and Star Wars scene

Bottom line:
I give this an 7.5/10
-2.5 because I almost died trying to play it.
If it didn't do that, I would of given it an 8/10.
If you're an old-school game lover, GET IT
If you have noisy little children, GET IT (but be careful with the cables. I don't think this bootleg piece of crap is safe under drool or spilled orange juice)

Posted by: Chris Torres at May 5, 2004 06:02 AM

I went by the mall and the price had dropped down to $49.99. Is that reasonble. It is the latest version. It also has the gun that is green and not the gunlike colors I have seen online. Just wondering how cheap people have gotten this.(without the gray gun)

Posted by: 2thoughts at May 6, 2004 10:41 PM

I got one at a flea market in tampa, and it doesn't even work, the guy made it sound so easy, i really don't recommend this product

Posted by: nicole at June 2, 2004 09:14 PM

As some-what mentioned in the review the "VCSp Guy" is working on the "NESp" via this cheap thing and made his own converter: apparently the really early NES games had the original famicon pins inside with an attachment to make them work on the American NES. The enclosed link (http://www.classicgaming.com/vcsp/NESp%20Page%202.htm) has screenshots showing a destroyed Gyromite game followed by a "Famicom-to-NES-to-Famicom adapter" which apparently makes it work with American NES games (though I wouldn't guess by the title). (He also has instructions on bypassing the built-in games so you can play carts).

Posted by: Dubois at June 4, 2004 10:53 PM

This is an awesome idea! I brought it home, however and was a little disappointed that there isn't really 76,000 games. they should just sell this thing honestly and tell you there's only 76 games. Besides, anyone press the button enough to get to the 40,000's? i thought not. Freezes up 80%of the time when you first open it, but after a few uses it only freezes 1 out of 10 times played. I still like it though. worth the thirty bucks.

I LIKE THIS MACHINE BUT IT WOULD OF BEEN NICE IF I COULD GET CARTRIGES TO WORK IT. I WENT OUT AND GOT SOME JUST FOR THAT REASON. IS IT TRUE ONLY JAPANISE GAMES WORK FOR IT AND DID ANYONE GET BURGER TIME TO WORK? THANKS

I got this for my father as a fathers day gift because he loves the old games. Pacman being his favorite game i thought instantly to buy this after trying it at one of the shadiest kiosks of Japanese rip-offs i've ever seen. Anyway i saw pacman on the list and i knew i had to buy it. I bargained the guy down from 76$ to 40$. I brought it home and its what i thought it would be except Pacman! My dads favorite game is some cheap knockoff that doesnt come close to the premise of the real thing! So dont buy it just for PACMAN if i can call it that!

Posted by: Sam at June 19, 2004 01:25 AM

Hi, I don't have any personal hands on experience with this. I saw the legendary "kiosk" at my local mall and thought I would do a bit of research before spending the 60 dollars for it. I found the following at http://superjoy3.com/faqs.htm and think maybe it would answer some of the technical difficulty questions.

"How does Power Player Super Joy compare to the other all-in-one game consoles?
The Power Player Super Joy Game system has many duplicates out there such as the Pika Boy, Mega Joy, Mega Joy 2, PowerJoy, Power Joy 2, Power Joy 3, and the Magic Game Joy among others... but the Super Joy is constantly updating their game selection and improving their system. Most other systems are pirate machines and tend to break or suddenly stop working after a month, when you buy the Power Player Super Joy 3 /3.5 from us you will get a quality system with full staff for customer service questions and full warranty support. Guaranted! We also promise to bring you more game cartridges, system updates, and bring new invovating products to the market for your gaming and entertainment pleasure."

And so it would appear that maybe those of you who had faulty products had just missed the details? I'm hopeful for my sake that such was the case.

superjoy3.com appears to be their official web site. Anyone have experience with this site?

~Drimly

Posted by: Drimly at June 27, 2004 10:43 PM

does anybody know of any websites that have firmware upgrades for these systems or whether it's technically possible to do this. I have the super joy 3.5. The dealer told me that someone brought in a system that had Mike Tyson's punch out loaded on it which is not one of the games available on this system. I know you can buy a cartridge and stick it in there, but is there any way to hack this thing?

Posted by: dennis at June 29, 2004 11:11 AM

Love the game. Great pass time. I'm not heavily into video games and the sort but this fulfills what tendencies I do have plus some. No one should pay more than $20 for the Power Player 3 and no more than $30 for the power player 3.5. My suggestion: Don't buy from malls if you have a credit card and 3 days to wait. Go Amazon/ABC toys/ 411toys

Posted by: Desiree at July 7, 2004 03:00 PM

Anyone know if the constant buzz in the background is normal for the 3.5 version? The buzz is so loud on mine that I can barely hear the music from the games. Any ideas? I'm thinking of returning it.

Posted by: Leon at July 7, 2004 09:14 PM

Also, has anyone noticed how tight the battery case is? It barely fits 4 AA batteries (you really have to press them in), and it won't fit my AA rechargeables at all.

Posted by: Leon at July 7, 2004 09:35 PM

I've heard of other people having issues with the buzzing noise, but I'm not sure if it's particular to the 3.5 version or not. I have had the 3.0 version for about 3 weeks now. Mine doesn't make the noise. I've had my fill of retro for a while. If you or anyone else is interested, email me, I'll sell it to you for $25.00 + $5 s/h.

Posted by: Dennis LaLonde at July 7, 2004 09:37 PM

For everyone,
If you order the 3.0/3.5 console from 411 toys, be aware of their return policies. If you want a refund, you will not get a refund for the original shipping costs (~$11) and you will have to foot the bill for shipping back out to them. Seems like a raw deal to me. I definitely won't be doing business with 411toys again.

Leon

Posted by: Leon at July 12, 2004 09:16 AM

Leon, my suggestion to you would be not to do business over the internet if that upsets you. Shipping and handling is generally non-refundable by 95% of the retailers out there unless there are some extraordinary circumstances. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: Dennis LaLonde at July 12, 2004 09:54 AM

Dennis,
Thanks for the info. I'm not much of an internet shopper (sort of ironic since I work in IT) and was unaware this was common practice. I'll definitely be more cautious in the future.

Leon

Posted by: Leon at July 12, 2004 10:16 AM

I saw this at a kiosk where they had one for $50 and another one "with better graphics" for $70. Actually, I think it was the same thing in a different color. I decided to pop into the game store NEXT TO THE KIOSK where I bought it for $23. I plugged in a Lik-Sang famicom-to-NES adapter and the NES cartridge booted right up. I think this thing is cool, $23 cool, but not $50 cool.

Posted by: craig at July 17, 2004 12:27 AM

It's a piece of crap. I give it a 1 out of 10.

I picked up one of these last week at West Edmonton Mall. They were selling them for 89.95 Canadian, and I managed to get a deal for 69.95 Canadian. It's still a rip off. No matter how you look at it, 50 games listed over and over does not make 76000 games. The color and sound are wrong on most games. The controller sucks, and the light gun doesn't work properly.

If you really want to play NES games, go to your local 2nd hand shop and pick one up, and pick up games for 1 or 2 dollars.

Posted by: George at July 22, 2004 08:55 AM

Does anyone know how to play an NES cartidge game with the Power Player or if you can?

Just purchased super joystick 76000 in the Menlo Park Mall in Edison, N.J. Price 30.00, first the gun didn't play at all and I returned it for another unit. Now the whole unit doesn't work, the vendor was pretty smart and already said no refund,I should have seen it coming. I will try one more time for a refund, or maybe stand in front of his stand all day and badmouth his services. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hey, I just bought one of these from the mall and it works perfectly. I figured some of the games were copies, but everything is pretty much as I remember it, even pacman. I have no buzzing sound, the graphics are fine (albeit 1980s quality) the so called special effects are just like they were. It does freeze up if you hit too many buttons at once, but then what do you expect? As I remember, my original Nintendo stuff used to fritz out a lot too, it is crappy 80s technology. There is a reason we moved on from it. I got mine for 45$, after a mall employee discount from 49. Of course, I never was a real game junkie, this is just something fun and probably more for less serious game people like me and not so much for the serious people who get offended at the quality. If you want the real thing, get the real thing.

The Power Joy / Super Joy is an illegal bootleg of the Nintendo Famicom / NES. It is built on a combination chip made in Hong Kong by a pirate company that contains a cheap replica of the CPU, audio, video hardware, RAM/VRAM and other various devices. This is bought in bulk and glued (yes, glued) into the unit.

Then, the Power Joy / Super Joy manufacturer downloads a large number of pirated games from the internet, combines them into a menu and puts them onto a chip, also glued into the board with new names.

To pass off the 16 or so games as '76,000' they put names like 'SUPER MARIO 5723'.

The sound quality on this bootleg Famicom/NES workalike chip is abysmal. Sound samples will play too quietly, so the music drowns them out. Half the sounds play as static or don't play at all. The system slows down far more than the original did under stress due to a weak 6502 processor clone instead of the real deal.

Controls are shoddy. Most notably, holding DOWN registers as a tap, making shooting down in games like the included bootleg Contra copy impossible, and the game nearly unplayable because of it. The buttons often jam and are unusable after this within MINUTES of unpacking the unit. The 2P controller is low grade and a bootleg of the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive controller. The casing is a copy of the N64 controller from Nintendo ..

I could go on and on about the crimes these people are perpetrating. But if you want to read more visit my website, I have the full scoop there in the Pirate NES Section.

Thanks for this information. I have been searching on the internet for information on this because my God-daughter wants one for her birthday. I have been seeing $55 every where too. Do you know anywhere that sells it cheaper than that? I may check ebay.

Posted by: Dion at September 10, 2004 10:50 AM

I got mine from eBay for $20, and truly thats all its worth. It isn't bad, I haven't had any problems but I'm annoyed at the selection of games, or really how it "claims" to have 76000 when in reality its just the titles over and over again. I thought the light gun worked really well (much better than my original NES gun). The unit is lightweight and so is the power plug, I don't know how "safe" it is to plug in being its made cheaply.. so I use batteries instead. The battery chamber is a bit tough to close (i had a few issues).. But if you paid over 40$ for it I'd say you've been ripped off. Also the unit on the bottom DOES work with Nintendo Famicom cartridges, I have a few and tested them, they work fine (for now).

I just bought the NC-76 "original version" for $40 at a mall kiosk. I really didn't expect the thing to work AT ALL. So when it did, though the quality was poor, I was quite thrilled to revisit some of my favorite games.

The best feature is the option to play Contra with unlimited spray gun and 30 lives. Is it possible to beat the game without codes or devices such as game genie? Has anyone ever done it?

Posted by: Tiffany at November 6, 2004 07:36 PM

Wal-Mart has 'em too.

I just bought one from a mall in Louisiana and the gun trigger was broken and I was really upset that it only has a few games listed over and over and it cost me $55. I am taking it back and getting my money back.

Posted by: heather at November 13, 2004 10:29 PM

a while back i saw one of these in a nearby mall and rather than the goofy controller it had one of the small grey rectangular ones that came with the first nintendos, i guess. i've been to four different malls and everyone i've talked to at the kiosks were either russian or middle eastern and had no clue what i was talking about. has anyone else seen these and does anyone know where i can get one before Christmas?

Posted by: margaret at November 18, 2004 06:50 PM

Do not buy one of these on ebay. Apparently they're cracking down on the shady-ness of these things and once you've bid on them, won them and sent your cashier's check in the mail they'll cancell the item. At least that's what happened to me. Hopefully the kid who had it listed will still sell it to me. One can only hope.

Posted by: Margaret at November 24, 2004 09:28 PM

which version of contra lets you start with 30 lives and unlimited spray gun? (since there are 76,000 titles, the title number would help)

thanks

Posted by: Steveo at November 28, 2004 12:52 PM

It appears that a new, better version 4.0 is out. Check this link http://www.powerplayerusa.com/ I'm probably buying 3 or 4 for kids this Christmas, but I'm a little perplexed about these things. Does it bother anyone as much as me that these camel riding,no tax paying, terrorrist look alikes are the distinguished group chosen to market these illegal knock-offs to the rest of us. Wonder what outstanding cause we're helping to fund by buying these exquisite items.

I just picked one up today at the local mall for $50, they had evidently just upgraded because 1/2 of the stock had the buzz in the background the guy said, and in addition to the game, the guy threw in a weird cartridge that reminds me of an old sega one that fits into the underside and has additional games. Pic on it has games down the sides and street fighter characters on it, and lots of japanese characters. Pretty cool all in all, now do I give it as a gift or keep it... *cackles gleefully*

Posted by: Coyotemagus at December 4, 2004 10:37 PM

I have had one of these things for years and the first thing that stuck out to me was the AC adapter is REAL cheap. I know using the AC adapter with the controller, that some 60 hertz humm (buzzing?) could be heard on the TV but went away with using the batteries. If you can't shake the buzzing noise, you might just try a better AC adapter from someplace like Wal-Mart.

I received one of the 3.0's for my birthday. I like it. It's not the greatest toy in the world but it is a good deal for $40. I could never get my wife to play video games but she enjoys playing the power player. It seems these games are best for having people over and playing for fun, remembering the good old times.
have fun all i'm out

Posted by: stin at December 10, 2004 08:50 PM

A few years back I found a Yahoo Store selling them and when I got it, there was no outside packing with the artwork - just a box with clear wrap to keep the components from falling out. It did work but the AC adapter kept on falling off and within a year the whole thing brokeLast year I purchased a "Super Joy 3" directly through the company's website (an earlier version was also sold on a very reputable national TV shopping channel). The website stated all games were legally licensed but the site no longer exists and that channel no longer carries any super joy products. The Super Joy was constructed better than Power Player with better graphics and sound, but the variety of games was disappointing. So I came across a site selling the 3.8 version for $23, noting that buyers "should beware that there are two versions of the power player out, the original and the knock-off which claims to have 76,000 games. This one has the original pac man and the games I miss, so I just placed an order for it. Will let you know how it works out.

Hey all,
Just wanted to let you know that we bought this product and wow does it suck! I decided to do some research and found this website (which totally rocks by the way)!! I bought it at a mall kiosk and brought it home. Talk about static! No different versions of the game at all. What made me more mad was that the Isreali guy that sold it to me said that it had 76K games. I didn't even think about it. Also, what I failed to notice that there was no Nintendo logo at all on it. So then we went to the mall to return it and I had a printout of the news article stating it was illegal (for back up) my boyfriend and I tried to return all nicely and the same guy that sold it to us gave us a wicked attitude and said no refunds, exchanges only. I said why didn't you tell us this last night?(yes, this is less than 24 hours later) He claims he did. Then he stated that he said it only had 600 games and 75K different versions. Lies. that is NOT what he told us. He said there was a HUGE sign saying that there were no refund-I looked. I had to ask another guy-he went to the register and pull up a sign that was laying face down on the counter. He said it was up all day. (okay sure....) So I then decided to look at my recipt. It had my boyfriends name on it, how much we spent (85) and a scribbled signature from the guy. on the BACK of the recipt it said no refunds. Ummm, first of all, don't most stores put no refunds right on the front? Secondly there was no upc code or sku number or anything along those lines. Also it didn't even say we paid cash for it. Hmmm. Sketchy I think? yup. What really pisses me off is that they are doing it right under our noses and making money!! So we called over security and sense it was so late there was nothing we could really do. We will go back tomorrow and speak to the customer service people and try to get our money back somehow. I will be down right shocked if they are even still there. we will see. Thank you for having this great website!

Posted by: Liza and Anthony at December 13, 2004 10:46 PM

Hi gang, no pictures yet, but I did get it last night. This time it did come in a sealed box with the phrase "the original" printed on the box and a bar code on the bottom.

This unit offers 1,200 games but I was unable to determine any variations, however, the amount of individual games is more than sufficient. It does include the actual pacman. I noticed "Nintendo" is displayed at the beginning of many of the games along with the copyright dates.

The graphics are sharp and colorful, sound effects are clear (there is a slight humm as others stated but not at all powerful) and this unit is better constructed than the older Power Player that broke down on me, with very tight buttons and input jacks (at least the AC adapter will not fall out). The adapter also has a red light to indicate it is plugged in properly. Didn't have the time to check out the second player unit or gun.

Out of curiousity, are all Power Players knock-offs, or is there a company that has actually secured licensing for the games?

Ciao,
Joe

Posted by: Joe at December 14, 2004 03:03 PM

Hi again,Just to follow up on the above, both the gun and second player unit work fine. If anyone is interested, this is the information on the box: it is called POWER PLAYER, has the words "super joystick and power gun"; also says "the original/new addition"; a gold sticker with "12000" near the top; in the right hand corner appears to be a model number XA-76-1E; on the back a bar code is glued to the box and beneath the code and also in the lower right-hand corner it does state "made in China"; on one side there are boxes to indicate if the unit is black, grey or blue (with drawings of how each looks).Of course, this could appear on any of the bootlegs but the craftmanship, at least for this one, appears to be more than one would expect from a knockoff. Will let you know how it holds up later on down the road.Happy holiday to all,Joe

my brother in law bought one and it works great and has no humming. i love that it has the same games listed like 70000000 times its funny, but it rules...and i love duck hunt.

I picked one up at my local grocery store yesterday on sale for $14.99! Version 3.5 with the 12k games. Works like a champ with no noise problems. Came in a more professional looking plain yellow box, none of the usual silly "screen shots" on the sides.

Posted by: Clinton at December 16, 2004 01:54 PM

I just bought one. I thought it was to good to be true, That It has to be illegal. Anyway, It is the same one as described above XA-76-1E but it does have the original pac man. The burger time game is not correct though. The guy at the mall said that burger time is on the one with the white screen. also paperboy is on that one too. I bought two more from e bay and two days later they pulled them off the auction because of possible patten infringements. I paid only $44.00 for two of them! I sure enjoy playing these old games.

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to ask this, but I'm stuck and I need help.

My son just received the Super Joystick & Power Gun (Original New Edition) for his birthday. I have connected everything correctly yet when I turn the game on I just get a blank blue or green screen. I try pushing every button on the controller including start and reset, but nothing happens. All I get is a flickering screen when I push the reset button.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bruce

Posted by: Bruce at December 19, 2004 12:40 PM

Bruce,Try using another AC adapter? The one in the game could be broken Did you check to see if the AC plug is solidly connected to the wall socket? Sometimes the prongs do not stay all the way inside the slots due to the weight of the adapter. We're sorry and hope your son was not too disappointed that his birthday present did not work.- Joe

Posted by: Joe at December 19, 2004 08:55 PM

Sandra,
I bought one and had the same problem; there is a little black button in the place where the battery goes...if you take the battery out, put your finger in there and try to feel for a black button; you need to slide it to the left or right, whichever way it is not yet. When you do that, hit the reset and it will say "fun time" and you'll be ready. I've also had no luck getting a cartridge to fit and am looking into finding out which work. Thanks
Rick

I recently Purchased a super joy stick 3 at crosscreek mall in south carolina
I took it home and it wouldnt work!!!
Everytime i would turn it on, it would be a blank screen!
I payed 55 dollars to play donkey kong on a blank screen!!!

Plus the wires on this thing looked like someone had just stuck them in there

And metal was falling out of the back of the empty socket for a cartlidge

I have no idea who made these but i need some advice on if i can get this thing to work

The worst part is the people i bought it from left the same day i bought...all the way to New Jersey!!!SO i cant get a refund...

I believe these people ripped me off or this thing is a cheap version of a N64.

If there us any advice someone could give me that would be wonderful.....

It really ruined my christmas eve

Thank you

Good grief. A cheap $15 toy that seems to work (XA-76-1E model). It got opened up for Christmas last night and they played on it for hours! New Game cube game is still in the box yet to be played... It says 12,000 games but the list above (with 76 games) is really all it has.

Posted by: Dadwith3teenboys at December 25, 2004 11:24 AM

Xmas day and we got some for the fun of xmas. They both don't work. Avoid these crappy devices at all cost. Good luck

Posted by: robert at December 25, 2004 11:31 AM

I bought one of these for my younger brother for Xmas present. I knew it was working, because after reading this site, I forced the guy at the mall kiosk to let me open up the packaging and try one out to make sure. Anyway, it seems that these units are hit-or-miss. I was lucky to get a unit that works pretty well, save for controller issues with certain games; Contra is practically impossible to get beyond a couple screens as the arrow buttons on both controllers stick. Mario plays a little fast, but most of the other games were okay- duck hunt is perfect, like the original.

My advice- don't buy online. And make sure you test yours before you take it home.

Posted by: Cory at December 25, 2004 01:58 PM

I recently was given the Power Player Super Joystick for Christmas, and really enjoy it, with one exception. Could you tell me how to get the light gun to work with Duck Hunt and Clay Shooter? I plug the gun in the appropriate spot on the main controller, but none of the games seem to work. Point being, nothing happens when I pull the trigger. I've tried resetting the system, plugging and unplugging the gun, but nothing helps! Could anyone tell me what to do, since the instructions say nothing about the gun? Thank you.

Posted by: doggy69247 at December 25, 2004 08:52 PM

oh yea.....big piece of crap here, only i think i bought a rip off of a rip off. For the LOW LOW price of 70 bucks, I brought 2 of these home for Christmas. Now, I didn't expect a high quality piece of work from a mall kiosk.....but i wish at least on of them worked at all. Same story....tried different TVs, cables, power packs. I usually get a black green or blue screen. Once I got a brown screen, and it made a weird noise for about 5 seconds. I was hopeful reading the above fix, but I soon realized that my controllers do not even have a place for the battery pack. That space holds a cartridge. The cover under that,(which on some websites shows a port for attaching other cartidges)...doesn't even exist. I took the cover off, and there is just part of the circuit board showing.

So, I have the Power Player original new addition model XA-76-1E, one controller says SUPER JOY III, and the other says POWER PLAYER. There is no place to put batteries, and there is no button to slide right or left, as one person stated above. BOTH of the sets I brought home do not work. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT.

If the kiosk is actually still being manned the day after Christmas, I will do what one writer above stated, and that will be to stand there and tell every single prospective customer to not purchase it (until I get a refund or mall security hauls me off).

I figured just once I would trust one of these overpriced mall rip off kiosks, because the idea seemed pretty cool. When I told my kids I had to travel back to the "post office" to mail their sets back to the "north pole", they asked if "santa" could bring back a different toy, and not another "POWER PLAYER". Sure would be cool if it worked though.

I'm curious if hadji will refund my money.

me and my sister both got 1 for christmas, and both dont work. like the guy said before, these are either hit or miss be sure to try these out before you buy it or just avoid it

Posted by: Justin at December 25, 2004 09:48 PM

Christopher,The gun is not used for clay shooter - the joy stick controls the aim of the shot. Duck hunt might be tricky due to movement. The 12,000 variation unit with the white screen has a game called "gunslinger" (or something like that) - it is a western shootout. Suggest pointing the gun at the standing target and fire when it says shoot. If nothing happens, then I'm afraid there might be something wrong with either the gun or the plug on the main unit (see if the second player unit works to be sure).Hope everything goes ok.

Posted by: Joe at December 25, 2004 09:48 PM

Thanks Joe for the help. Unfortunately, I don't have Gunslinger (I have the 76,000 game version with the unexplainable Star Wars decorated box). As far as the second player joystick, it works just fine.

The gun game in my version is called Wild Gunmen, so I tried it. The gun still doesn't do anything. :( Is there any switch on the gun? Or does it require batteries? I thought no to these questions, but maybe I missed something?

Anyway, I had a thought, are these systems pirated like some have said? If so, the ones that work might actually be valuable someday, since they could eventually be rare items. Just a thought.

Ok, we just got this system for my kids who are 2 and 4. I thought it was a great idea, seeing they love to play games, and I didnt want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that they would probably break within a week... Heres my problem tho... We bought an extra cartridge for it right.... BUT, whenever we try to use it, it freezes... My kids like to move the controller around when they play, and they can't when playing this.... shit, I can't even keep that still when playing... Is there a secret to make it work with out freezing (with the cartridges) and also... Does anyone know why it says 76000 games when they are just all duplicates over and over again? Its pretty annoying, and the only instructions that came with it was a small picture of where to plug in the cords... like I couldnt figure that out on my own.... Grr, someone, please help me before I kick the stupid thing

My parents bought me one for Christmas. They bought it on December 5. Christmas day i decided to fire it up-- Doesnt work. So we figured we'd go Dec 26 to see what we were doing wrong or to get another one. they were GONE. They told my parents at the time of sale, we will be here til March if there are any problems. Friggin foreigners. If they didnt lie when they speak, they'd probably never talk again. We went to mall management office.... they had 25 games shipped in because of the numerous complaints.. We tried another one out, this time in Sears dept store on their tv, DOESNT WORK.. We plan on getting every red cent back for it, per mall management. The mall management was mad because they also jumped town w/out paying rent. So they are just as eager to go after them.... I strongly suggest you talk to mall management if you were also ripped off.. I will never purchase anything from a kiosk again, unless its a soda pop kiosk.

Posted by: cee at December 28, 2004 10:13 AM

I got one of those super joys, and other than the fact that the games repeat over and over, and the shoddy controller that glitches sometimes, I'm fine with it. For the stupid people who bought it without realizing that it sucked hard, it's your own fault. It says made in China on the box, so you should have been more careful when buying it. Plus, who could have actually thought that a hunk of plastic made in China would have 76000 original decent games on it? But, maybe when you see another stand with those crazy foreign people at the mall selling those, try to bring your super joy in, and threaten to call the cops and get them deported if they don't give you a refund. Who knows? It might work! ;-)

P.S. there's a game on there called monkey. It's like Donkey Kong Jr. except the game is all negative and it makes weird freaky noises. It's kind of cool. Just go to the very last page of games(press B on the first page) and look down at the page until you find it.

Got the POWER PLAY 3 at a flea market in Los Angeles for $14.00. I don't understand why everyone is complaining. These things are awesome.Just to have Space Invaders and Dig Dug is worth it! Those two titles were never available on 8 bit Nintendo. The rest of the games are gravy--and the Pac Man is the same as the arcade--even my patterns responded perfectly!I love this thing!!!

Santa got my son one of these power player super joysticks and it will not work. I don't know what to do about it. any ideas?

I order two powerplayers from www.powerplayersale.com and I got two pieces of sh*t. They claim to be selling version 3.8 which actually just appears to be version 3. Everything they promised on the website is a complete lie. One barely works and the other doesnt work at all. Plus their only contact is an email address that i have sent several messages to without a reply. So do me a favor and dont give any more money to the b*stards at www.powerplayersale.com

I too bought one of these games and it was broke when we opened it. I emailed them at superjoy3@gmail.com. This was their reply:

Now we are sitting on a beach in Cancun partying with our hundreds of
thousands of dollars we made off suckers like you! Life is good?

You want a margarita honey?

DON'T BUY ONE!!!!

Tim,Power Player Sale states having a seven day refund policy and if that does not work contact Pay Pal for help in obtaining a credit or dispute payment when your credit card statement is received.

I knew absolutely nothing about this product until I saw it in a mall on Dec 28. I thought it was awesome, and the $45 I paid sounded reasonable. There was no question in my mind that it was both bootleg and likely to be a piece of crap, but as long as the games played I'd be happy. Reading this site, it sounds like I got lucky, compared to some -- I've had only minor quality problems.

Mine appears to be a 3.0 76000-in-one (I base this on the bizarre "Pac-Man" that isn't Pac-Man), but it comes in a box I haven't seen anywhere else, though the inside styrofoam layout is the same -- it's just different cardboard. It has no transparent windows, and says "PLUG & PLAY Video Game System" against a space motif (earth, space, rocket ship) on top of which the controllers are pictured. There are no version or product numbers.

I haven't tried the AC adapter. One thing to be careful of if considering a different adapter is that this device appears to have a negative-tip AC adapter, which is unusual, so I wasn't suprised to hear someone blew his up by trying a different adapter (which probably was positive-tip). You'd do the same to many other devices if you reverse polarity. I destroyed a router this way. To make matters worse, the polarity isn't printed on the unit, so you'd only know this by looking at the AC adapter.

I absolutely could not fit four Duracell AA's in the battery case. No way, no how, and it wasn't for lack of trying. What I found worked neatly, however, was using three AA's and one AAA.

The instructions said I had an RF output, but I definitely do not (not that I need it).

Ok, power up. Fun Time shows up along with multiple green random characters scattered around the screen. These show up on the game menus too, but are the only real software problems I've encountered. The games play, the sound is fine, and it's a blast playing Donkey Kong Jr. from my bed.

I'm totally happy with it (I had no delusions of anything more than what it is). I already broke off the fake hat joystick trying to, uh, move it. No big loss. I think this thing is awesome, and I only wish I had bought a couple of friends.

My advice? Harass the manager of the kiosks. They know it's crap. I used to be hired by a man selling these in Edmonton and they had like 30 broken power players under the counter all the time. They constantly broke, even the in store models are constantly replaced. I thought it was neat, and got one superly discounted (only way I would ever purchase it).

So if you're getting one-- know that there are way fewer games than what is claimed. Test the unit you purchase in the store. Discuss the return policy. Ask for a discount. They'll always lower the price at kiosks. Always. Get the manager's phone number.
And DON'T be afraid to return for an exchange.

If you bought it in Edmonton, especially don't be afraid to approach the manager. I've worked for him (he runs the ones in West Ed and Southgate) and he's a shady dude, but he breaks under pressure. You'll get your exchange. :) And if you know what you're in for and get a reduced price, it's a cool toy.

My teenage son bought this for my 6 year old daughter for Christmas. He thought she would love it and was so excited that he was finally able to spend some of his own money to buy his little sis a gift - it doesn't work. The wires are loose and they keep coming unplugged. We play the game and 5 minutes later it shuts down. The screen jumps and goes blank...just long enough for us to lose the game. We can't make the men in the game go backwards with the main controller - only the player 2 controller works going backwards. My son was gypped out of his money for this game. It's worth nothing....don't buy it.

People actually buy things from mall kiosks? That's crazy talk.

I was very disappointed to find out Burger Time does not work. It is one of my old time favorites. I have also found other cases where choosing an option will bring a totally different game from the one you select. So I am still clicking through all 76,000 choices in hopes Burger Time is buried in there somewhere. Don't lose hope. ;-)

I purchased one of these for my 3 year old son for Christmas at one of those traveling electronics shows. The "duck shooting game" or "Duck Hunt" is all he asked Santa for. When I tried to let him play on Christmas morning, the piece of crap did not work. I emailed the manufacturer about a possible replacement and they told me to " take him out and shoot some real ducks." When asked if they stand by their product I was told, " We stand on our product, it is a piece of crap, we sell them to suckers like you for $40 or more and we are out of the malls before you can get a refund." Let's just say, the display was great my son was really good at playing the game. Wish I could have the game at home for him now.

I have one with the foil sticker saying 76000 in 1. My kids enjoy it just wish I could get duck hunt to work. All i can find is clay shooting and no way to choose duck Hunt. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

This site has been a savior. I bought two of these at my local mall in Maryland that came with 76K games AND an extra cartrige for 72 extra games.
Here's the weird thing, mine are called Super Games. Has anyone else heard of it being called that? I can find no reference to that name on the internet. One that i got worked ok, though only the analog would work. But the other only had the same 72 games from the cartrige loaded on it, and NONE of the 76k it was suppose to. The analog even fell off. I was told to return it to another mall in our area where the 'headquarters' would be,(all of our malls are owned by the rouse co.) only to find the kiosk gone.
We called the number on our reciept, which by the way if you want it is 410 296 6329, only to get a recording in what i believe to be french. We then went to the mall where i bought it at to find that kiosk gone as well!!!
I was very disturbed to find this website http://video-games.ioffer.com/i/7CBYMHHL0YR02uot1
where if you buy these in cases of 100 or more you only pay $11.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any one have advice?
Has anyone tried to get the mall to refund $$?

Posted by: elaine at January 5, 2005 09:46 AM

I think the game is great.

Mine is anyway.
Just a comment

Arkiroid (old break out) is extreemly hard to beat, even at level 3.
I do not recall break out being that hard until about level 6 or 7.

BTW Will Game genie work with the plugin on back?

thanks

Dear fellow gamers,

Sorry to hear that many of you have had many bad experiences with this product.

The power player is manufactured in china and there are many different styles and versions.

I have personally played with over 10 of these different power players.

1st Power Player 76000 in 1 without Pacman, Burgertime or Paper Boy. This one was pretty good, with a return rate of 6%.

2nd Power Player 12000 in 1 with Pacman, Super Contra, Burger Time, Paper Boy, This one came with the white screen that stated 12000 in 1. The problem with this one was the buzzing sound.

3rd Power Player 76000 in 1 with Pacman, This one was not good at all because the A button would always get stuck. The game list was good but the main control sucked.

4th Power Player 128 in 1 this game came with 128 games in 1. This one was supposed to be the better of the systems because it contained 128 games. It sucked because it contained like a fake ninja turtles game and a stupid pikachu game. It was also supposed to be wireless. Yeah right. The big problem with this one was that this shipment of 128 in 1 was a European Version and was not supposed to be sold in the U.S. but of course these people still sold it here to make money.

5th Power Player 76000 in 1 with a transparent main control and flashing lights on it. The problem with this one was that you were supposed to switch a button that was located inside the battery pack compartment. Retailers did not even know that the button existed and therefore a lot of people were ripped off and probably got rid of a good power player that worked. This button was installed under the battery pack compartment so that U.S. Customs would not know how to turn this system on in case they suspected this was a pirate system.

6th Power Player 76000 in 1 with a concealed button behind the control under the on/off switch. This secret button was located behind a QC (Quality Control) sticker. Again, this button was installed so that U.S. Customs would not know how to turn this system on in case they suspected this was a pirate system they would only see a green or blue or gray blank screen.

7th Power Player 76 in 1 76 different games including pacman, paper boy and other favorites. This was my favorite one. No big problems, about 3% return rate.

8th Power Player 64 in 1. 64 games including Pacman, Adventure Island, and other favorites. Also one of my favorites.

In my personal opinion, this is a great system with great advantages. The problem with this product besides being an illegal system, is that these retailers, mainly middle easttern, do not have any business ethics and will lie to your face. This people will not honor their return or exchange policy.

Good Luck.

Hi Gamer,

Was the "Super Joy 3" sold in the U.S. a few years back manufactured by the same people who did "Power Player"? At the time, it's webpage said licenses were obtained and the system was completely legal. Super Joy also promised additional game cartridges four times a year. It was well constructed.

But after being on the market for only a few months they were no longer available through the only website selling them in the U.S. (plus a major television shopping channel). Being dropped so suddenly it does raise questions.

Posted by: Joseph Dubin at January 7, 2005 09:40 AM

Gamer,

I meant the POWER JOY 3 (not Super Joy 3)- sorry.

Posted by: Joseph Dubin at January 7, 2005 10:00 AM

Joseph,

I first learned about the power player until over a year ago, but I do know that the power joy was sold on QVC for a while. I never played with the Power Joy but I do know that most of the games were made up games or modified games.

For example, Super Mario Bros. was probably called Pumblers world. The content of the game was also modified, like the background and the different characters. In my opinion, that is also illegal because the are just changing some of the details of the game.

Posted by: gamer at January 8, 2005 06:11 PM

Hi Gamer,Thanks for getting back on Power Joy. I believe the unit is manufactured in England and sold on a British television shopping channel. I wonder if a loophole in the law allowed for the legal sale of systems containing cosmetic altered games carrying different names before Nintendo started with the lawsuits. It's difficult to imagine a corporation like QVC selling a knock off of any kind - or it's buyers being conned.

Posted by: Joe at January 8, 2005 09:54 PM

Gamer,
You mentioned what some of the Power Players looked like, is there a way to visually determine which version is which among the others? Particularly is there anything that sets the 7th apart from the others?

Posted by: Jim at January 9, 2005 09:56 AM

Out of curiousity I checked to see if Power Player was still available and it seems the Government really is cracking down on the sites that were selling them. Two shut down completely (including the site I used) two others were suddenly out of stock (more than two weeks after the Christmas shopping season ended) and another dropped it from their product list altogether.Impossible to find one on eBay last I checked.

So no one has seen this called Super Games?
