January 22, 2004Do you realize that you have the most beautiful face?I've been getting a LOT of hits because Google seems to think I know all of the songs that are used in the Mitsubishi commercials. Not really, but I know where to look to find out. So, for everyone wanting to know what music is being used in One or Both of the current commercials for the Mitsubishi "Galant," (often misspelled as Gallant) here ya go: People Waving at Car: The song is by Oklahoma's own Flaming Lips and is called "Do You Realize." Considering the career boost Mitsubishi commercials have given other groups, I hope the same happens to this excellent band. You can get the song on their album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. (Remember "She Don't Use Jelly?" Yeah, that was them) Guy Singing/Shopping List: Not certain about this one: This song appears to be "Dance to the Underground" by Radio 4. You can find several versions of it on "Electrify," or on the Dance to the Underground CD single. Might not be it, might be another Galant comercial. Let me know, k? And while I'm at it here are a few more finds.... The commercials for "Big Fish" (which I need to see) are using both "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel (found on Shaking the Tree: 16 Golden Greats) and "I've Seen All Good People (Your Move)" by Yes (available on The Very Best of Yes)...doot doot doot do do doooo Listen closely to the Cingular ad and you will hear "867-5309." (not the often thought digits or "876-5309"). You can get this on 867-5309: Jenny a "best of" CD from Tommy Tutone. This song is 80's Classic! Was there a real "Jenny" and was that was her phone number? We may never know. OutKast's "Hey Ya" (from Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below) is being used in the commercial for the new Adam Sandler movie "50 First Dates," and in just about every other TV promo on the air. Fun song, but they are gonna drive it into the ground. A shame, really. BTW, this is your chance to confess...did you ever dial "867-5309?" Come on, tell the truth!!! How about "777-9311?" ...man, I miss Morris Day and the Time... Further Reading: Posted by on January 22, 2004 @ January 22, 2004 07:53 AM 32 folks had something to say |
I love that Flaming Lips song. Any time that commercial comes on that line reminds me of my wife. I guess she heard me telling somebody this because she was smiling when the commercial was on last night.
Hey Jesse
N..now Jerome, yes!
Check it out!
You're making me feel old. I have the album Peter Gabriel (the 1st one of 3 with that title) containing Solsbury Hill and The Yes Album (with All Good People) on vinyl. Sheesh!
Posted by: Hondo at January 22, 2004 1:57 PMJenny I've got your number, I need to make you mine...Of course I dialed the number.

Posted by: Michele at January 22, 2004 4:45 PMThat Flaming Lips album is AWESOME. I didn't know a song from the album was in a commercial! I guess I really am out of the loop!
Posted by: Aubrey at January 23, 2004 9:26 AMHi, do you happen to know who sang the song that's in the new Gallant commercial? A man is driving and it looks like he's singing along to this song, but he's actually saying his shopping list over and over again. Thanks.
Posted by: Pam at January 25, 2004 9:33 PMHi, do you happen to know who sang the song that's in the new Gallant commercial? A man is driving and it looks like he's singing along to this song, but he's actually saying his shopping list over and over again. And it's not the Flaming Lips.
Posted by: Karmar at January 26, 2004 4:25 PMDude - I'm probably a bit older than you - i'm thirty five and let me tell you, that song in the new mitsubishi add - the FLaming lips song is a TOTAL knockoff from any and all of the songs written and performed by a group called Gang of Four - an eighty's band, not very popular, but I loved them - anyhow, i can't belive it wasn't them - gang of four - and my excitement was curtailed when i realized that not only the gang after all - man, you wouldn't belive how they have ripped off the group.
Posted by: spadernas@aol.com at January 26, 2004 6:11 PMPam / Karmar: I'm not certain, but I think the song in the newer Gallant commercial is "Dance to the Underground" by Radio 4.
Posted by: myk_33@hotmail.com at January 27, 2004 1:39 AMGood call, myk_33, sounds like Dance to the Underground by Radio 4 alright:

{P.S. - The Flaming Lips-Do you Realize song is or has been used to promo some commercial but not this one. Thanks for the useful board anyho!}
Actually, that is another commercial where the Gang of Four-ish song plays. The Flaming Lips sound NOTHING like Gang of Four. You are getting your Gallant commercials mixed up.
Posted by: bud at January 28, 2004 9:56 AMWow... I'm thouroughly impressed and very glad that you have this great site. Bit of trivia for you... doubt you will know it but worth a shot... it was a song that appeared on an AT&T commercial last year some time. There was a guy an girl sitting on a bus but they couldn't sit together. They were playing "I spy" over their cell phones as buffalo ran beside the bus...any ideas
Thanks so much

Thank you so much for posting that "Flaming Lips" song! I've been looking everywhere for it, and finally stumbled onto your site! Great song...your efforts are appreciated!
Posted by: Nicole at January 28, 2004 8:55 PMThere are two Mitsubishi Galant commercials airing as of January 30 2004 with two different songs :
First one: Flaming Lips - "Do You Realize" {more ethereal song)
Second one: getting more airplay as of Late January "Dance to the Underground" by Radio 4 {more upbeat song with guy saying his shopping list}

Posted by: Elke Sisco at January 30, 2004 3:31 PMthanks for just being knowledgeable in music. i knew the flaming lips one , but i'm always googling lyrics to find songs. i couldn't understand the radio 4 one, so it's great that you knew that. continue in your random help!
Posted by: becky at January 30, 2004 8:03 PMI've been looking for the name and band for this song for like a week now. You're the only site so far that Google sent me to. And I've joined the members list. Great blog, interesting stuff.
Posted by: Georgie at February 2, 2004 8:34 PMThis is unrelated to the flaming lips song, but there was an ad for at&t a while back with a couple not speaking to each other ... and he busts into her meeting with a sign saying he's an idiot and he's sorry, and it turns out that he really just text messaged her ...
but what I'm curious about is if anyone knows who's responsible for the guitar music in the background ...
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I liked it, and I was wondering if it was a piece by a band someone recognized.
If someone knows or could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Posted by: Steve at February 3, 2004 7:51 AMThanks for the Mitsubishi info. While a few others are asking, I've got a question about a song used in a Saturn commercial from spring/summer of last year. The action involved individuals driving around in cars fashioned out of large cardboard boxes. The song opened with a few bars of acoustic guitar intro, after which the vocal melody began. There were no lyrics, just la's - la la la lala la la la la la la la, etc. If you're music-savvy, the melody went E G G G E G G E G A G C E E D C A D D A C E D (I won't try and indicate the rhythm - if you know the tune, you'll recognize it in the first few intervals). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Posted by: Elliot at February 3, 2004 11:42 PMtheres another commercial for mitsubishi but i dunno which car it is. they have two cars that are like racing and an 18-wheeler dropping cars on them and the two cars are dodging them. the song on it is really good and i wanted to know the name of it so i can dl it
Posted by: alfredo at February 5, 2004 1:26 PMHey, just wanted to give a little tip to everyone. I've done alot of commercial-music searching myself. alot of companies won't help you, because they haven't the time or they just don't care. But, luckily, mitsubishi is very nice. If you want to know any of their songs in any commercial, go to their website and contact them directly. they'll tell you the advertiser they used if they don't know the song themselves, and the advertiser definetly will. It takes a little time, but i guarantee it works, i've done it several times! (sorry not for any of the ads mentioned though)

Posted by: raz3r at March 9, 2004 2:09 PMWow. This site is exactly what I've been looking for and been afraid to admit. I'm addicted to commercial tunes.

Thanks to all participants I've just viewed! It's given me some new directions to search out, but I'm interested in an old spot that had two couples riding in 'whatever' make listening to a techno-tune that had non-descript dub style vocals and hypnotic trance sound and the girl in the front passenger seat is doing some sort of mime-type robotic dancing in her seat. This is from at least two years ago? Nice head music for the right frame of mind if you know what I mean.If anyone can assist, please drop me a line.Thanks in advance! T.C.
Posted by: Tom Coombs at November 22, 2004 12:48 AMOOOOPPPPSSS....sorry, new to this. I guess it'd help to have included my email address for 'the helpful'; eartime@comcast.net for miss robotic dancer spot...THANKS AGAIN! Since I'm back again,I'll throw a generic out for the younger generation; if you've seen a commercial spot (don't remember the product now tho) that has a "hip" tune called "I'm In With the In Crowd"; that's an old 60s tune from Dobie Gray who brought us the classic "Drift Away" which he reprised a duet of awhile back with a contemporary artist. Nice chattin' music with you all......Musically, T.C.
Posted by: T.C. at November 22, 2004 1:09 AMI live in the Chicago area and was wondering, 'Who does the radio spots for the Galant?' This gentleman is a quick witted, smart mouth fellow. I think his approach is very good. How can I find out more about the commercials?
