December 1, 2003UndercoverOne of my fondest childhood memories was when my Dad would take me exploring. Back in the day, we would visit old railroad tracks and pick up spikes to take home. Climb all over the old trains and even go inside. One time we found an old amusement park! It was called "Wedgewood Village" and it was in Oklahoma City. We always went in the daytime, I can't imagine how scary that place might have been at night (ruh-roh Raggy). Today, I don't think you could get away with the that sort of trespassing, but back then, we did. Maybe that is why I find abandoned structures so fascinating to this day. I probably will never go into one, but I sure do relish the web sites that post detailed photos of such adventures. Here now is an incomplete list of some "Urban Archeology" sites I've come across. Modern Ruins by Phillip Buehler - The '64 Worlds Fair section is great but also quite sad. DefunctParks - Offers a clickable map of the USA and all the now defunct amusement park within. Some even have then and now photos such as "Chippewa Lake Park" in Ohio. What Ever Happened to Idora Park? A loving look at another of Ohio's favorite parks. Has some great shots of the ballroom before it caught fire. Also available with other photos at DefunctParks.com. Just found this link to S&P Idora Park page. Wow, that is a lot of tribute pages, this must have been a very special park. Forgotten Ohio - Ohio seems to pop up a lot, wonder why? The important thing is there are lots and lots of photos from the inside of buildings, which is what you wanna see right? Doesn't matter where they are does it? Ohio Valley Abandoned - Again with Ohio! What, does no one live there anymore??? Freedomland, USA - One of New York's parks. Infiltration has a lot of abandoned sites, so go poke around the site. One that I thought was funny, is called "Taking the Plunge." It is more or less an experiment so see how many hotel pools you can sneak into without actually staying at the hotel. Deathrock Ruins & Urban Exploration - A great Link List that you will want to bookmark. Many more sites than I could ever list here. Hudson Valley Ruins links - Hosted at Georgetown, the author has now graduated and the pages are slowly vanishing. Of note, is this extensive link list of Abandoned Buildings. Worth saving to your PC and browsing later. file this under MindPosted by on December 1, 2003 @ December 1, 2003 04:34 PM 11 folks had something to say |
Mine just went up. Wow ... am I actually the first for a change (unless someone hits 'submit' before I can ... LOL).
What's up with Michael Jackson? I have no idea. I just know I'm sick of hearing about him.
Posted by: Becky at December 1, 2003 5:19 PMWhat's up with Michael Jackson? You mean other than being the world's most famous pedophile? What's up with him? His time in a free society, because that man belongs in a place where he has no access to vulnerable kids. His own kids should be given back to their mother and he should be kept as far away from them as possible.
Posted by: TanksGrrl at December 1, 2003 5:59 PM...and I've gotten it done on Monday for a change! Go me!
Posted by: TanksGrrl at December 1, 2003 6:00 PMDid it! Still don't know what an internet meme is, though... http://mt.gardenwife.com/archives/000431.html
We know that he slept in an oxygen chamber, travelled with a chimp named "Bubbles", wears *one* glove, shares beds with underage boys, tried to buy the Elephant Man's bones, divorced Elvis' daughter, hung his child off a balcony, surgically transformed himself from a handsome black man into a cartoonish white Peter Pan, and hangs with Emannuel Lewis and Elizabeth Taylor, has *two* children named "Prince" ... what is up with Michael Jackson? He has too much money and not enough people around him saying "that's probably not a good idea, Mike".

Posted by: meowy at December 1, 2003 7:48 PMMine's up. Glad to hear you're feeling better, too :)
Posted by: Cynthia at December 1, 2003 8:39 PMMine are up. As for MJ, I really don't know. I'm trying to avoid the media frenzy.
Mine are up.
I just wish they'd leave poor Michael alone. Someone out there must have it out for the guy bad.

He scares me, do we have to talk about him. He doesn't even look human anymore. I think they used his face as the mold for the Planet of the apes.
I think I'm lost and confused today...
I don't see the monday five...maybe....since it's tuesday, I'm blind to the monday mission?
Lord only knows.
I'm glad to hear you're better hon:)
*hugs*
