November 25, 2003...and one to grow onThis week marks the Three Year Anniversary of PromoGuy dot Net! Blogiversary, Blog Birthday, call it what you want, I am just glad to still be going! Amazing! Three full years of blogging goodness. It hardly seems possible. Yet in November of 2000 I made my first blog post. It was rather boring, about some cool Windows NT tool. But, like they said in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "I got better." It all started with a simple Blogger.com account, that I soon outgrew. It doesn't take long before you want a good commenting system and features that allow you to do more with your blog. From there I moved to GreyMatter and from there to MovableType. I learned a lot in that whole process, and I am still learning even today. (interestingly, the earliest post I could find in the archives is numbered 318, so I have a feeling it wasn't really my first post. I think somewhere in the migration process my early posts were lost, so I will always wonder) I didn't know much about blogging, but I knew I wanted in on it. While I can't exactly say that one single blog that inspired me, I do know that I could not have made it this far without the help and friendship of Christine, Jennifer and Robyn in those early days. A lot has changed in everyone's lives since then and I am not in contact with them like days of old, but I still count each of them as great friends who have given a lot to the blogging community. I couldn't have made it this far without them, my thanks to each of you. Then there is the Monday Mission. It began shortly after my Blog started, and it also went through some growing pains. It too has been going for nearly three years, and has given me the chance to meet some wonderful people and make some great friends. There have been a few minor flame wars here (anyone remember the whole Cordle vs Hootress in the Hooters/Tipping controversy?), but nothing major. Regulars have come and gone, and comment spam has increased (that means I'm popular, right?). Design changes have been minimal, interestingly enough. While I do consider myself an artist and designer, I've never really fancied doing much with this site design-wise. I just like to write, and think, and come up with ideas, and the look comes second (as you can see by my current generic MT template design generously snazzed up by Lacy's logo banner). I've wondered just what my "special purpose" is with this blog. I don't really use it to make the world a better place. I don't use it to spread the word about my faith and bring other to Christ. I don't provide any advice or create any snazzy scripts. I don't detail the inner workings of my personal life. I don't blogroll and am not a member of any "rings." I don't sell anything. I don't take any political stands. I don't write page long essays that get people talking for weeks. I just write....stuff. Nothing special. Come to think of it, why DO you read my blog anyway? For those of you who've been around since the early days, thanks for sticking with me. For those who are new, don't run away screaming, I'm harmless (and sometimes, entertaining). It has been a wild ride and I can promise more of the same. With blogs closing down left and right, I am happy to say I have no intention of shutting the doors (but never say never). Thanks for sticking with me. If I've made you smile then it has been worth my while. PromoGuy dot Net turns 3, and I wanted to say thanks! Pings are unrelated to your post, but I wanted to let you know. file this under MindPosted by on November 25, 2003 @ November 25, 2003 09:46 AM 12 folks had something to say |
