October 16, 2003Blacklisted and TweakedThe word is out, and MT-Blacklist is a good thing. A plugin that blocks comment spam. Which, if you've been here a while, you know I have to deal with a LOT! The one problem (at the beta stage anyhow) is that when MT-Blacklist sends comment notifications, it will "undo" my "More Meaningful Comment Notifications" tweak. Thankfully, Shawn has figured out a workaround. I will take a look at what mods she made and maybe post a "how to." In the meantime, I emailed this situation as a possible bug to JayAllen.org so maybe it won't be an issue in the next release. Great work Shawn! Considering the multiple duplicate comments I've received since adding MT-Blacklist, I wonder if it is slowing down the add a comment function of MT. I have over 8,000 comments, so if it has to traverse them each time a comment is left, this could be the reason. I am looking at this post at Wizbang on how to speed up the plugin on rebuilds. It may be just what I need. I've also found information on tweaking the behavior of MT-Blacklist at This Chic. Other Comment Notification Hacks: MT mods that I found while researching this article: Posted by on October 16, 2003 @ October 16, 2003 11:05 AM |
As soon as I get a chance, I'll see about re-creating the hack based on your hack. I just worked on it spur-of-the-moment yesterday.
Thanks for those links. :) I could problaby add a few more tweaks to my site that I haven't implimented, yet.

Winds of Change.net stoped using the beta the slowdown was so bad. It seems to be an issue only for high comment sites, which makes sense given the increased workload in traversing more database records.

Posted by: Kevin at October 16, 2003 11:45 AMmaybe it would be good if one could find out what's placing the spam. i think it's just an automatic thing, because in my case ALWAYS the same two entries were attacked by spam.
Posted by: Michelle at October 16, 2003 12:28 PMThis plug-in really works!
Should we wait for some new up-dates and "refreshments"?
