October 15, 2003Our Story So Far...
First, there is no Monday Mission yet. I know, I know! Here it is almost FRIDAY and I've not done it. But then again, I haven't got one email complaining that it wasn't posted. So either everyone is really understanding, or no one cared. Either way, my goal is to get it online Friday. Next, where I've been? Well, mostly in the Message Boards. Actually, like a dork I deleted the wrong mySQL database over the weekend and had to wait for it to be restored. That happened yesterday afternoon, and last night I re-entered all the posts that were lost (about a week's worth). All is good again. I've missed posting, so it will be nice to get back on the wagon. Let this be a lesson to you - back up your site and your databases. My "Contol Panel" has an option to download a TAR file (like a ZIP file) of my entire site - and so I did, uncompressed it and burned it to a CD. I need to do this Monthly. FYI, your Databases are not usually in this backup - be sure to find them in your control panel and back those up as well. Trust me, it makes life much easier! Lastly, I am feeling better. 18 days later, my Sinus infection is mostly gone. I still have a cough that is nagging me, but otherwise I am all better. So many of you have asked about that and I wanted to thank you and let you know I am much better now. Real life is mighty busy and taking a lot of my time, so I can't say you can expect many posts this week. But I do read your comments and emails, and usually get back to you quickly. Eventually PG dot Net will be back to full force. In the meantime, help me breathe some life into the Message Boards. Thank you for sticking with me during this rocky time. Monday Mission was missed, but we understood. Many of us live in the same boat as you. We could do something wrong or someone could hack our site and all the years of blogging would be gone. I have been moving back and forth between servers as my hosting site tries to fix a server. I have learned how to back up my sql database and restore it very well has I have to keep moving it back and forth.
Glad you got your stuff back and don't worry about the mission this week, the hell you went through was a mission enough and we all feel for ya.
