May 19, 2003LuncharoundEver do a lot of errands on your lunch hour then wind up cramming your lunch down your throat at your desk to get it all done in an hour? Yeah, me too. Today I went to CrampUSAche to get the Hemera 100,000 Photo Images CD-ROM. It is on sale now for only $9.99 (7-CD set). And you know, I've never owned one of those crapified Clip Art CDs before, so I figured it was high time. Actually, the photos look pretty snazzy, as far as consumer stock photos go. Ok, update here, I just browsed the collection, and the section of people alone is impressive. The image quality is great, print quality even, and you can also just drag and drop the image into Photoshop. Sweet! The 2 gripes: there is no paper manual of the thumnails, so you must use the software to browse them. 2) You have to swap out CDs to see the high-res in the preview window. Minor quibbles though. Honestly I have no use for this right now, but you never know. I give it 8 Promos out of 10.(Hmm, how did this turn into a software review?) Then walking past the "As Is" clearance bin, I saw a wireless Keyboard and Mouse set for $15 (half the regular price). But then I remembered, I have a wireless keyboard I never use (can you say "eBay?"), but I would like the mouse. And whaddaya know, right next to it is the super-cheapo looking Optical Wireless Mouse. It too was half-price, making it $10. They had a wireless ball-mouse for $10 that band new (not "as is") but I thought I'd try the "optical" one since they are all the rage. Hope it doesn't suck. They said I have 14 days to return it, so I guess I better be sure to test it out tonight. I debated on paying the $5 more to get the keyboard and non-optical wireless mouse, but like I said, I never use the wireless KB I have now. Also dashed by the book store and used an old gift card to pick up the now-in-moratorium DVD for "Beauty & the Beast." There are still a few copies floating around. I also need to go back soon and get "Snow White." I hate when I miss out on DVDs, they always seem to be cut back to 2-DVD sets before I can get to them. Hunting for: I know there is always eBay, but for me, that is a last resort, y'know? Speaking of Disney DVDs, here are a few upcoming releases I will be saving for: Found via Jim Hill's excellent Disney news site. Wonder what all this Platinum Edition stuff is all about? Me too, thankfully Ultimate Disney was able to clear it all up. The "Platinum" DVDs are super-deluxe special releases of Disney's top selling movies of all time, to be released one per year every October. Visit the site to see the list. Yeesh, by the time 2010 rolls around will I even care about owning "101 Dalmatians?" (Of course I will, the question is, what will have replaced DVDs by then) file this under DVDPosted by on May 19, 2003 @ May 19, 2003 04:30 PM 3 folks had something to say |
I used to get my wife the Disney videos at the Disney stores( I always liked the lithos that they gave free), but with talks of closing those stores may be forced to collect something else. First Warner Bros now Disney, what's next to close Old Navy( I may have to go naked;)

Posted by: Orb at May 19, 2003 6:41 PMHey, just so you know, you may want to wait a bit on that Killer/Hard Boiled set. They're both supposed to be being re-released this year in special editions.
