S&V review: Kettle Chips Sea Salt & Vinegar

You thought I was finished with these reviews didn't you? HA! I found 2 more brands to try and review for you. I've been told there are more brands on the East Coast area as well as Australia, but my sources haven't had a chance to help me out. So, in the meantime, here is "Kettle Brand Chips - Sea Salt & Vinegar" which I found at a Health Food Gas Station (yes, you read that correctly). The bag claims these are "Natural Gourmet Potato Chips" which is a nice change from all the other flavors I've reviewd.

Well, this is a new one! I am able to try Salt & Vinegar chips made with REAL vinegar! The "Sea Salt & Vinegar Kettle Chips" came in a 2oz package and cost $1.09. These chips remind me of the deep fried twist-style potato chips that are served at most State Fairs and Arts Festivals. You can tell they are made from real potatoes, because you can see the skin on the edges and the slight change in color as the rings show up within the chip. The salt has a nice feel to it as it gets on your fingers. It isn't chunky so much as it has a slight texture to it.

So overall, the chip you are presented with is impressive and definitely natural looking.

But, these chips seem too greasy. I don't like chips that make my fingers feel greasy even after I've licked the salt off. You can even glance at the chips and see the greasy areas. I poured the bag on a napkin and they left a grease stain behind (which is always unpleasant when you consider these are going into your body).

Serving size is 1oz., 2 servings per container (oh sure, I only eat 1/2oz at a time). 150 calories per serving, so that makes it 300 per bag! All natural does not mean healthy in this case. 8 Grams of fat, and 1g of fiber. Eek! That comes to 3 points per serving or 6 for the whole bag! I hope you appreciate the sacrifice I am making in the name of science!!!

The flavor isn't Vinegar-ey enough for me however. Maybe I am used to the artificial Vinegar now, but the chips had more of a potato flavor aftertaste (not a bad thing) that I am used to. They have more of the flavor you get from those thick, thick deep fried french fries served at burger joints. Sure the S&V flavor is there, but not as powerful as I like.
