April 17, 2003Java JoeOk, so Gevalia won't identify who manufactures their 12-cup auto-drip Coffeemaker. You know, the one that is on their $14.99 special? It looks like this. After much research (eh, about 30 mins), I've concluded that it is probably made for Gevalia by "Delonghi." Why? Because this pot looks nearly identical to Gevalia's. Looks like there are a few minor design changes, but overall, the same pot. But according to the Amazon reviews, it sucks. I dunno, I like a bargain as well as anyone, but if it is crap, that isn't my kind of bargain. Can't there be a resonably priced 10-12 cup auto drip coffeemaker (with a timer) for under $100? file this under FoodPosted by on April 17, 2003 @ April 17, 2003 11:00 PM 6 folks had something to say |
I do the Gevalia thing myself and it does have some of the same problems as that Amazon review page stated - namely, if you don't get the basket to close properly you'll get leaks of coffee. It's nothing a little brute force and ignorance won't put right, though. If I spent $50 on it I'd be as ticked as those reviewers but as it stands I got it as the El Cheapo add-on with Gevalia so I can't really complain. The timer makes the occasional coffee dribble worth it, I think. (I keep my coffee maker on a trivet with a washcloth underneath, just in case, and have never had any major disasters.) Three years now and it's still working like a dream.

Michael Graves Programmable Coffeemaker (10-cup) by Michael Graves at Target.
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-17/qid=1050698900/
It is only $35 and I really like the form and function.
Posted by: Jake of 8bitjoystick.com at April 18, 2003 3:49 PMThat Gevalia coffee maker does sucketh in a major way! I had one for awhile - the plastic was such a low-grade plastic that it absorbed all the coffee flavors, and after about three months everything tasted junky.
Have you tried Black & Decker? I had one of their coffee pots with a timer. I think I bought it at KMart, and it cost about $40. That worked for years, until I accidentally knocked the pot off of the counter.
Hope this helps. You need help with coffee, you come to the Java Mom. She'll set you up! :)

Insomnia has the best of me, so I went searching for a coffee machine for you. WalMart has the Black and Decker:
Black & Decker VersaBrew Plus 12-Cup Coffeemaker
It's $17.99 right now. Rock on!
Posted by: Kristin at April 20, 2003 3:23 AMI work for Gevalia and I must say the comments that
i here are absoltly in sane. I mean in a better set
of words that we do anything we can for the customer.
If the coffee maker does not work we replace it, if
you do not like the coffee we will replace it or
refund your money for it...we give away 59 dollor
coffee machines for free, along with other gifts,
and i just dont understand these complaints..i
am in Canada and we do not sell here but if we did
id be sure to sign up and no that i would be happy.
I think that they only give a free coffee pot to get you started with the coffee club, you can get a free replacement if it breaks within a year. I think Gevalia is a wonderful company, they can't please them all, but for some seious coffee drinkers I don't even think that the coffee maker matters cuz they probably already had one to begin with, besides what do you expect for 14.95?
