January 7, 2003I Got Game, Boyeeeeee!Well, not really. Jake and I have had an ongoing e-mail discussion on whether I should get a Game Boyeeee Advance (yo) or wait for the next generation. He almost had me convinced last night saying the GBA won't be replaced until 2005/2006. Then I get up and see this at the newstand on USAToday:
Well Hot Dog! This new GBA comes out on March 23rd and will run ya about $99. Ahem, guess who's Birthday is March 29th? MINE! Hint hint! Some of the snazzy new features include: * A flip up screen I also saw at Funcoland yesterday there is some kind of Camera that can hook up to the GBA (and back to the PC) and also they had an MP3 Player add-on for it. This is one versatile little system. Seriously, I'd never have expected to play SNES games on a handheld. Then again, thanks to MAME I can play original arcade games at home on my Dreamcast, so let's hear it for technology!!! Now of course, I don't NEED a GBA SP, but I'd sure like one. I would love to be able to play Ms Pac-Man, Mario World and Yoshi's Adventure again. Of course, what we really need is a GameGenie Advance to snap-in like I used to on the old SNES system. Nothing like playing Mario with infinite lives and no timer. Wheee! Oh wait, they have that already. Sweet! Sorry to rant on about my geeky obsessions, but that's who I am. Gotta love me! file this under TechnoGadgetsPosted by on January 7, 2003 @ January 7, 2003 08:25 AM 7 folks had something to say |
Just bought my kiddo one for Xmas damn it. GAH.
Actually I don't like the way it looks as much. The boyo has a rechargeable battery pack for his anyway, and it adds handles to make it more like a Console game controller.

But man, we pay more in Canada...it was $97 for his and that was on SALE :)
Posted by: Joni at January 7, 2003 8:48 AMOoooh no... I am doomed when my kids see this. LOL My oldest has the gameboy advance and my youngest has her hand-me-down Gameboy Color. Now they are both going to want this one. Thanks a lot Nintendo! LOL
Posted by: Jill at January 7, 2003 1:23 PMsheesh... I am there with Jill, the kids have gbc, and they have Nintendo 64, and Game Cube --- game geeks they are, now I have no doubts they'll want the latest... (they didn't get GBA as their GBC's were too new when GBA came along and I refused to buy them.) ... guess they'll have to save their own money for these new gadgets... they have to prioritize and save, learning young!(I suppose there is some value in all this Nintendo stuff, teaching them to handle money!)
Posted by: Desiree at January 8, 2003 10:24 AMYou asked what Afterburner is.
It is a kit so you can install a light into an existing GBA but you need to be really good at electronics to pull it off

Posted by: Jake at January 8, 2003 4:23 PMI am not a big Mod Chip fan but I do have a Gameshark that lets me Boot Non US NTSC DVDs on my PS2. But I have boot disks for my Sega Dreamcast and PlaystationOne that let me run Japanese game by running the disk first than swapping it for the game. The thing is the Gameboy Advance has no territorial lock so Japanese games will work anywhere in the world. The Xbox has no good Japanese only games and Sony and Nintendo have been good at releasing the really good games in the US. In a way game publishers have defeated the need for mod chips by bringing out quality Japanese games at a brisk pace.
Posted by: Jake at January 9, 2003 12:38 PMI just got the gameboy advance last year but that's not going to stop me from getting the new one! I'm not nearly as bad as my sister though. She's got every version of the GB and actually derives some geeky pleasure out of having the first clunky gray model. :) I guess you could call it a healthy appreciation for the classics.
Posted by: patricia at January 14, 2003 7:42 PMGBA SP adds some cool things to the GBA but if you all ready got a GBA do you reall need the sp? you can still play all the same games.
