June 17, 2002Not Even for 2 Scooby Snacks!I said it then and I meant it! There is no way on God's green Earth I will ever see the "Scooby Doo" live-action movie. Few can understand my outright comptempt for this movie. My utter rage at the thought of seeing it. My seething anger for them even making it with the cast they have chosen. It was a bad idea and a bad cast. It will be a bad movie. Ebert thinks so. So does AICN. And almost every other movie critic! But it is a matter of principle. I will, never ever see this move. Ever! file this under TV & MoviesPosted by on June 17, 2002 @ June 17, 2002 12:30 PM 13 folks had something to say |
I can't agree more. It looks totally crappy, and that $56.4 million weekend is an abberration -- come on, who liked the cartoon? It was pretty lame, and I knew that as a kid in the early 70's.
Posted by: Scott at June 17, 2002 1:54 PMthat's blasphemy, Scott. the cartoon was the greatest thing ever, it totally rocked (until they brought in Scrappy...). surely the reason to go see the film is so you can grumble about how much better it used to be when you were a kid? isn't that the point of all these movies? i know Star Wars used to be better than Clones...
Posted by: su(zi)e at June 17, 2002 2:15 PMbut aren't you even the slightest bit curious?
Posted by: julie at June 17, 2002 2:56 PMHeee! I bet you do..... Someday...
Posted by: Joie at June 17, 2002 3:04 PMI think it looks terrible and I cringe every time I see the ad. A friend we were out to dinner with one night kept going on and on about how she couldn't wait to see it and I couldn't help looking at her like she was a freak.
Posted by: Kymberlie R. McGuire at June 17, 2002 3:47 PMOf course everything seen through the rose-colored lens of youth is better! Heck, I still remember the majesty of Star Wars and the chill I got when Luke walked outside the house at night and watched the twin suns set -- that was a major film moment for me.
But Scooby and Those Darn Kids? Nah.
I preferred Chuck Jones' masterpieces, thank you. :)
Posted by: Scott at June 17, 2002 4:27 PMWho's going to see the actual movie? I just wanna see the Harry Potter 2 trailer. :-)
Posted by: Manda at June 17, 2002 4:46 PMI loved the cartoon, even though it was cheesy! Nothing could ever be better than the animated cartoon version on Saturday mornings!
Posted by: ladybug at June 17, 2002 8:38 PMI agree all too much scooby will sucky.
Posted by: rah at June 17, 2002 10:18 PMYeah, I'm going to see this one right after I'm done seeing that "Ya Ya" tripe. And then I'm going to see whatever Tom Cruise is in. And then I'm going to slit my wrists with a rusty razorblade.
Posted by: Jodi at June 17, 2002 10:23 PMI have to agree with you. The cartoon drove me absolutely nuts as a child at times because it was slightly annoying, but the way the movie looks is absolutely horrendous. There are some things that are meant to be left simple, left where they began. It was a cartoon for a reason...it looks moronic in animation. As for the cast? *shudders* It looks more like they took people's impressions of the characters..than how the characters were actually supposed to be portrayed.
Must they always destroy everything that's sacred to your childhood? At least they haven't touched the smurfs yet...
Posted by: ~C at June 18, 2002 2:18 AMFeel free to keep this thread alive in the Message Boards. Who knew that Scooby was such a lively topic?
Posted by: Promo at June 18, 2002 10:53 AMNo, I would not pay nine bucks to see this in a theater. No, I would not pay four bucks to rent it from a video store. But since I use Netflix, and pay a flat fee each month for my DVD rentals, I might consider renting it. Maybe. If I'm really bored.
