May 13, 2002Monday Mission 2.19I'd love to have you join the MM mailing list, each week as soon as I post it, I send out a notification. Get the jump on all your fellow Bloggers! Also, if this is your first MM, please say so. And if you participate, be sure to post a comment so everyone can come see your answers. Note: In this post-Mother's Day edition, if "mother' does not apply, please substitute the primary female parental figure in your life. So, let's spin our web, shall we? Monday Mission 2.19 1. Have you ever given someone a present you just KNEW would be "da bomb" and when they opened it you could tell they just hated it? What's the story there? 2. What do you do that you would prefer that Mother never finds out about? 3. Ever get in any arguments with your mother? What was one of the worst? 4. When was the last time someone special hurt your feelings? Did you tell them or keep it to yourself? 5. Has your mother ever laid any guilt trips on you or made you feel like you can't do something good enough? 6. Looking back on your life, was there ever a point you see as the "crossroads" where you made a decisions that changed the course of your life? A path you did not take? What was that path, and do you ever daydream about what your life would have been like on the "road not taken?" Tell me about that. 7. That was an awesome picnic basket you put together, let's stroll out by the lake as the sun sets. A cool breeze blows off the lake as the orange and red reflects off the ripples in the water. I can tell something is on your mind and I ask you. You think about how to reply but finally you say ... 1. Have you ever given someone a present you just KNEW would be "da bomb" and when they opened it you could tell they just hated it? What's the story there?
Not that I can think of, but I can think of two times when the present was thought to suck and ruled more than it probably should have.
One was given to me, Jenn on Christmas 2000 gave me a thermos full of gummy worms and it ruled. It was one of those neat hot/cold thermos thingys and I love gummy worms so I was all happy and stuff and I thought she was playing off of that song Steve Martin sings in The Jerk, the whole "I'm picking out a thermos for you, not an ordinary thermos for you...." and so on. Yippie!
I later found a new bike in the back of my car.
Same year, I was broke as hell and decided arts and crafts was the way to go, so I wrote her a children's book about how we started dating. She thought it was the coolest thing ever when I just thought I was being cheap. Yea, me!
Well, I mean, I thought it ruled, but I didn't expect her to like it, but she did, so we're all happy.
2. What do you do that you would prefer that Mother never finds out about?
I can't say that here, she might see it.
3. Ever get in any arguments with your mother? What was one of the worst?
Oh, yes, all the time. I can't think of the worst one, but she was a single parent raising four boys all a year apart and we all went through crap together, fights ensued.
4. When was the last time someone special hurt your feelings? Did you tell them or keep it to yourself?
I don't remember, really, but I probably kept it to myself, I'm that kind of person.
5. Has your mother ever laid any guilt trips on you or made you feel like you can't do something good enough?
Nope, my mom was good about that stuff, always supported me and said "good show, ol' chap!" and stuff like that. I'm the one who put myself through the guilt trips. I'm so horrible to myself.
6. Looking back on your life, was there ever a point you see as the "crossroads" where you made a decisions that changed the course of your life? A path you did not take? What was that path, and do you ever daydream about what your life would have been like on the "road not taken?" Tell me about that.
Probably what to do after high school. That's one of two points in my life where I can see a definite difference in who I'd become. The first was my parents' seperation and subsequent divorce when I was 3 and 5 respectively. But that wasn't my choice.
And neither was the after high school thing, really, I guess. I mean, I didn't get into any of the colleges I wanted to and got accepted to Monmouth University at the last minute, only to find out my grandmother had cancer and they gave her 6 months to live. Thank God they were wrong and she's with us today, but I chose to stay home instead of running off to New Jersey for school and I've been stuck in a rut ever since. Sometimes I wonder how things would have been different had I gone to school, but I think not going has made me a better person overall and I'm not entirely unhappy where I am. I'm self sufficient, have a good job, a roof over my head, food in my belly, a girlfriend who loves me, all these things that I can't guarantee I'd have had if I had gone to NJ for school, so, yeah, here I am.
7. That was an awesome picnic basket you put together, let's stroll out by the lake as the sun sets. A cool breeze blows off the lake as the orange and red reflects off the ripples in the water. I can tell something is on your mind and I ask you. You think about how to reply but finally you say ...
"My ass itches...."
BONUS: What do you think will come of that?
My itching ass? Well, hopefully it's not a rash...
