In the latest Dr. Pepper commercial a cute brunette mother pulls up in her mini van, as she slide open the door, we see a group of little league boys nearly drooling in her direction. Hmm, what other choice for music did they have?
Could they have had any choice besides “Fountains of Wayne” performing “Stacy’s Mom” (Has Got It Goin’ On)???
Personally, I thought the commercial was cute, but the more I thought about it, it began to creep me out. First of all, where’s Stacy? How do we know this is Stacy’s Mom. Hmmm?
Then there is the whole thing about these boys leering at this Mom. Of course, in the video, Fountains of Wayne played up the “M.I.L.F.” factor too. But in this commercial, there is something about it, I dunno. Can you say…EW!
Ah well, the music is the key, and I liked their choice. I just think the concept needed more work.

Let me tell you how freakin’ music-nerdy I. When I checked out this video for the first time (prompted by the Dr. Pepper ad, of course), the one thing I remember the most was how maybe for a 1/2 a second, the Roland Juno 6 synth was featured, the first synth I ever owned. Bought it new around 1984. That mamma-jamma was designed for the heavy Cars sound, not the background support FoW uses it for.
Thankfully, music has grown up some. Great tune.
Lastly, that mom in the video is way hot in a mom fashion. Creepy concept? Maybe…but we’ve all been that 12 year old. Strikes oh so close to home.
Think Stacys mom is HOT in the commercial… but WTF, I'm 60 YO! Wonder who the actress is?
