I have many times expressed my thoughts that Cocoa Pebbles are the best snack food ever, and I still hold fast to that truth.
So when I found this site that has collected the front and backs of the Cereal Boxes of my (and probably your) youth, I was so jazzed! Visit the Cereal Box archive and see if it brings back any memories.
I loved Kaboom cereal, I sure miss that one. Or Freakies. We had some pretty odd cereals back them. I remember how excited I was when “Cookie Crisp” was introduced. “Cookies for Breakfast?!?! Mom! You HAVE to get this!!!”
When I took a look at the Cocoa Pebbles section, I was happy to recall that I had each and every one of the prizes they gave away.
And is it just my fuzzy memory, or were the toys in cereal boxes back then much, much cooler and fun than they are now? Now it all seems to be marketing tie-ins. I am not even sure they put prizes in cereal boxes anymore. I don’t think many cereal makes put prizes out these days.
That’s a shame. Nothing quite compares to that feeling of anticipation when my Mom said I could finally open the new box (once I had finished the eating the current cereal we had open). I recall the determination I had while ripping open the cereal box and digging down deep to find my Rock Grabber or Gyro Car.

What a great site. There are lots that I never heard before. Some of those never made it to Canada. Likewise we have some cereals that never were introduced in the States and out boxes are bilingual. I remember being introduced to the French language by the back of a cereal box, ‘Free’ = ‘Gratis’.
Kaboom is still around!!! My mom bought some last week for a $1.50 for a 10oz box, no less.
Let me know if I need to ship you some.
Yeah, we have Kaboom here too! My boyfriend nearly bought some last time we went to the grocery store. I’ve never heard of Freakies, and I’m disappointed that they don’t have the burglar anymore on the Cookie Crisp boxes, it’s just that dog! It’s so lame.
Heh, do you remember Nintendo cereal, Rainbow Brite cereal, and my personal favorite, Mr T cereal? Those were some of my favorites as a kid!
"I pity da po' fool who don't eat my cereal!"
Sorry, I just couldn't resist quoting from "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."
Fruit Brute!!!

One of the main reasons to buy cereal is for the toy in the box. =) Never too old for cereal toys!
Now they even give you cd’s with games and music in the boxes. Not often, but sometimes
I got a free version of “Operation” (You know, that buzzing board game) on CD out of Cheerios a while back.
My most recent toy though is a little bracelet type thing, that holds water so you can squirt water like Spiderman does his web *laughs*
I got to claim it as mine since it’s too small for my husband’s wrist. *struts proudly while attempting to make the toy work*
It’s a good thing we don’t have kids, otherwise we’d have to share our neat cereal treasures! *laughs*
I bought Cocoa Pebbles just the other day, and I got a free mini light sabre. Which is of course a marketing tie-in, BUT a lot of kids' cereals do still have the "free inside the box" toys.
What I think is great about this website is seeing how the use of the word "sugar" drops from all cereal boxes right around the '80s! I browsed the different Lucky Charms boxes (cool to see the old "pre-Blue-Diamonds" box!), and somewhere after the Purple Horseshoes are introduced, the words "Sugar Frosted!" on the front of the box is subtly changed to "Frosted Oat Cereal."
Hey, does anybody know who made or where I could find a MR. T cereal?
Thanks,
Sandy
Well, that took me back about 30 years. Whoa! I haven’t thought about all the sugar I ate as kid in a long time. Kaboom and Trix were the first cereals I can remember eating. My mom used to buy them for me in 1969 or so. Both cereal boxes were so colorful. I would stare at them in a sugar glazed gaze for about an hour, until it was time to go to nursery school. One sour find on the site was the back of the Honeycombs box with an ad for the “Free Inside” ship in a bottle. I vividly remember asking mom to buy me that cereal for the prize. When I finally dug waaaaaaayyyyy down deep in the box and pulled out the prize, I was not happy. It was a plastic ship that you put in a plastic bottle. Boring. But, hey, I loved the cereal inside!
